Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited, Bank of the Year for two consecutive years in 2009 and 2010, was registered in Ghana in October 2004 and obtained its universal banking license from the Bank of Ghana on 23rd February, 2006, thereby paving the way for the commencement of operations.

The Bank is a subsidiary of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, one of the foremost banks in Nigeria with a Triple A rating; the first indigenously owned sub-Saharan bank to be quoted on the London Stock Exchange. In 2008, GTBank Plc became the first new generation indigenous African bank to obtain a banking license to carry out fully fledged commercial banking activities in the United Kingdom.

GTBank Plc, currently owns 97.97% of the issued share capital of Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited, with Alhaji Yusif Ibrahim, a Ghanaian business entrepreneur, holding the remaining 2.03%.

Presently, Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited’s shareholder’s funds is in excess of GHS236 million, thus, providing the Bank with a competitive advantage in terms of business capacity and the readiness to handle relatively big-ticket transactions.

Due to its consistency in building a strong, profitable and respectable brand in Ghana, GTBank within the nine years of its operations in the country, has grown to become a reference point for good business practice and a role model in the financial services industry.

GTBank operates from 34 branches spread across the lengths and breadths of the country and is built on the strengths of its staff, its structures, policies and procedures. As a principle and due to its preparedness to invest and develop the country’s human capital, all of its staff members totalling 841 are Ghanaian except three Nigerians. It presently has over 50 ATMs dotted across Ghana.

The Bank also has an open door policy, thus reinforcing an informal atmosphere that breeds a feeling of equality. Everyone is accessible and approachable, working in open offices alongside their colleagues. In addition, we have a flat organizational structure that engenders effective communication and prompt decision-making.

As recognition of GTBank’s leverage on its robust IT infrastructure to roll out customized e-banking products and services, it has been awarded as the Best Bank in IT / Electronic Banking, also for two consecutive years in 2009 and 2010.

In August 2011, aside being awarded (for the second year running) as Bank of the Year 2010 during the Ghana Banking Awards ceremony held in Accra, GTBank emerged winner and runner-up also in the following other key categories:

Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited has also been named by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as theMost Market Responsive Global Trade Finance Program (GTFP)Issuing Bank in Africa for 2010. The bank is also on the Ghana Club 100 list of Most Prestigious Companies in the country.

It has been named in a KPMG Customer Satisfaction Survey (conducted in the banking industry in Africa 2012) report as theMost Customer focused Bank in Ghana.

At the 2013 Ghana Banking Awards ceremony held in Accra, Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited emerged the Best Bank in Mobile Banking and Co-Winner, Trade Finance Deal of the Year Award.

In November 2014, Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limitedat the 13th Ghana Banking Awards ceremony emerged as the Best Bank in Product Innovation, 1st Runner Up - Most Active Ezwich Bank and 2nd Runner Up - Best Bank in Competitive Pricing – Enterprise Banking.

GTBank is currently the Technology Advance Bank in Ghana as adjudged by the organizers of the prestigious 2014 Ghana Telecoms Award.

Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited’s superiority in technology and electronic banking was once again endorsed at the 5th edition of the Ghana Telecoms Awards 2015, where for the second time running, the bank was adjudged Technology Advanced Bank of the Year. The bank was also named as the winner of the eBanking Service of the Year award.

In 2016, Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited was for the third consecutive time named winner of the Technology Advanced Bank of the Year, and the for the second year running E-Banking Service of the Year awards at the Ghana Informtion Technology and Telecom Awards.

At the maiden edition of the Ghana Aviation Awards, GTBank won the Best Online Payments Platform award. The Bank also won the Most Innovative Bank, West Africa and the Best Online Platform, Ghana at the 2016 Banker Africa Awards. Also, GTBank won the Straight- Through Processing (STP) Award for Excellence by the Citi Group as a reinforcement of the Bank’s commitment to providing customers with effective and convenient ways of transferring funds internationally.
