The just-ended GTBank Super Zonal Soccer Championship has unearthed talents that when properly groomed should see the development of youth soccer in Ghana raised to another level.
After intense competition, boys from Zone 4 consisting of Ada Senior High, Chemu Senior High, Presec, Tema Senior High and other senior high schools from the Tema Municipality won the male category of the 2015 GTBank Super Zonal Soccer Championship after defeating Zone 1 which is made up of Kaneshie Technical School, Accra Academy, Wesley Grammar and others by a 2-1 scoreline to emerge winners.
The entertaining final saw the Zones play their hearts out to compete for team and individual honours at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In the female category, competition was equally keen as girls from Zone 2 which consists of Accra Girls, Labone Senior High, Holy Trinity Senior High and others defeated Zone 4 with schools like Nungua SHS, Chemu SHS etc to be crowned Champions of the day.
The opening matches kicked off amidst notable personalities which included the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited, Mr. Lekan Sanusi, Regional Director(GES), Mrs Felicia Boakye-Yiadom amongst others. It lived up to its billing as the initial exchanges between two female teams were even and later exhilarating.

Individual players who excelled during the competition i.e. Goal King and Queen, Best Goal Keeper (male and female), Best Defender (male and female) and Best Player (male and female) were awarded with a cash prize of GHS1,000 each.
Commenting on the outcome of the 2-day fiercely contested soccer championship, the Managing of Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited, sponsor of the event, Mr. Lekan Sanusi, emphasized on GTBank’s continued support of such socially responsible initiatives. “This is one of the greatest opportunities for the Bank to contribute to the development of youth soccer in the country”, he stated.
Mr. Lekan Sanusi reiterated his earlier remarks during the Opening Ceremony of the event that, “As a responsible corporate citizen, GTBank would continually look for ways to plough back some of our profits in the communities in which we operate to aid in social advancement and development and also for posterity’s sake”.
He hinted that the second edition of the GTBank Soccer Championship would surpass thisyear’s event as competing schools would be expected to vie for the Principal Cup, with the winning team having the possibility of competing with winners from other countries where GTBank has presence.
